Todd was born and raised on Bainbridge Island. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1984. He attended Whitman College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. In the next years, Todd explored numerous jobs and travels. These included the following: working in cancer diagnostics for a biotech firm; assisting with research into diabetes at the Seattle VA; working at the Puget Sound Blood Center; teaching conversational English in Japan and finally traveling to Russia to visit his now wife Yaroslavna.
Todd attended the University of Washington School of Dentistry during which he married Yaroslavna. He graduated with Honors in 1996. While in school he was recognized with awards for excellence in Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Law and Ethics and Implant Dentistry. He was also inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor fraternity.
Following dental school, Yaroslavna and Todd moved to Boston where he completed a one-year general practice residency program through Harvard University. The purpose of this year was to improve his medical knowledge while also improving his skills as a young dental practitioner. In addition to extensive studies of medically compromised patients, Todd managed the dental treatment on patients ranging from those undergoing bone marrow, lung, heart and kidney transplantation to those too sick to be appropriately treated in an outpatient setting (e.g. AIDS patients, all hospital inpatients etc.). This training also included rotations in emergency medicine, oral surgery, head and neck radiology, anesthesiology, oncology and others.
While in Boston, Yaroslavna had the opportunity to study conducting at the Boston Conservatory of Music as well as sing in a modern opera. They enjoyed the Northeast, visiting relatives in Maine, friends in New York City and traveling whenever Todd's busy schedule would allow.
They returned to the Northwest in 1997 and Todd joined in dental practice with Harmon Adams on Bainbridge Island. Since arriving that summer, Todd has been active participating in numerous dental as well as community activities. He is an active member of the American Dental Society, Washington State Dental Society, the Kitsap County Dental Society and the Bainbridge Dental Seminar series. In addition, Todd is a member of The Emerald City Cast Gold Study. This is an active group of dentists in pursuit of perfection with the most conservative type of gold restoration, the gold inlay.
In addition to continuing his dental education, Todd teaches at the University of Washington School of Dentistry in the departments of Prosthodontics (dentures) and Restorative Dentistry (fillings, crowns and bridges). He has also volunteered his time through the WSDA's Smile Mobile treating children unable to obtain access to dental care.
Todd and Harmon have contributed to numerous community organizations. Todd has also had the opportunity, prior to his present very busy schedule, to coach a great group of Bainbridge girls in Youth Soccer. Todd and Yaroslavna attend St. Cecilia's Parish. They enjoy swing dancing and visiting as many National Parks as possible. He is an avid hiker of the Olympic Mountains by summer and telemark skier by winter.
Todd enjoys the personalized nature of the care he provides to patients within his dental practice. He takes the meaning of practice as a challenge that it is never enough to stop learning or contributing within the profession. He looks forward to continue years of care and commitment within the Bainbridge community that is his lifelong home.
